Specialized S-Works Turbo Levo with 38mm Fox 160mm Travel Forks
I would like to thank the team at TruTune for the speedy dispatch of the product and guidance in setting up the bike. I ride XC and Enduro primarily and upgraded from the standard 36mm Fox forks to 38mm units in an attempt to improve suppleness and general performance. Whilst there was an improvement in overall general performance the suppleness typically found in a strung fork was missing. This has now been significantly improved with the TruTune insert. The bike now rides over obstacles whether high speed square edges / rocks of low speed bumps with a control and balance that was previously missing. The improvements are across the range from initial stroke sensitivity, mid range support to linear resistance towards the end of the stroke giving me the confidence to ride faster than I have previously. I have no clue around the science of active carbon but I can confirm that in my application, the product has delivered on it's promise.
I have the TrueTune cartridge in 3 different forks. What it does for a fork is so unimaginable, it is hard to explain. It is especially most noticeable in my down hill bike. This is a Nomad with a 180mm Select Plus Zeb. It was a good fork before the cartridge, the cartridge accentuated the plushness. In all my riding experience with many different combinations of forks on this bike I have not experienced the compliant ride feeling of the TrueTune with the Zeb. Before the Zeb there was a 38 with a TrueTune cartridge and it made the same remarkable improvement to the 38 as well though the 38 did not end up as good as the Zeb.
believe the hype, the simple fact of the matter is this device has transformed my 38s, I have 2 pairs one at 160mm on my Levo and a set at 180mm on a kenevo. the difference with the Levo is good, sensitivity to bumps is improved and overall grip is much better I dont hammer this bike but is well better with the flow all day long. BUT... I feel like it rocks sox on the 180mm best. it's day and night when comparing this fork with tokens in. all I'll say is do it, just go get one you will NOT take it out. ive a set of 2023 36 factory arriving this week and I will be definitely be ordering the flow & the hit device if fitting permits. and the dust cap at less than £6 is a bargain very well made. the flow device is very very very easy to fit.
As I am a big bloke, I have to run high air spring pressure to get the required sag, my fork though capable, doesn't have any of the whistles and bells of the higher spec'd forks in the Fox 38 range, using a higher spring pressure results in very little small bump compliance, this is what I miss the most as I don't tend to throw my bike off anything higher than 30cm.
I'd seen some positive (though not a lot recently) reviews of the Trutune insert, and for the money, a lot cheaper thank potentially changing my forks.
I ordered one and fitted it straight away, using Trutune's setup advice, retaining the already installed token and increasing the pressure by 15% to get the required sag.
I can only say, what a difference! really compliant off the bottom and better mid-range, I will probably remove the original token as I'm not a particularly hard rider and the forks are nowhere near full travel.
Money well spent!
Rides higher, creates grip, easy to install, turned a basic Domain into a much better fork on my ebike. Confidence inspiring. I'm clearings drops and jumps with added height I think due to the way the TruTune Flow makes you ride higher in the suspension. This thing is REALLY good.
I tried it just because I was curious, and I liked it since the first descent. I followed the instructions, so no bottomless token and only the Trutune for a XC/DC use, a little bit more air pressure and the job’s done. Feels super nice on small bumps as well as bigger rocks, and the red ring on the fork speaks clearly about how much more travel is used (at least 8 mm). I’m very happy at tue moment, and hope it’s going to last a lot.
Trutune fork insert, I'm a 70kg rider, running Fox factory 36's on a Specialized Levo, but wasn't getting full travel, even without any tokens and sag set to soft.
The carbon fork insert has cured this issue, plus:
Initial movement is as smooth as a coil fork off the top.
Stutter bumps and trail chatter are reduced dramatically.
Front end grip has improved by about 10%.
I set my sag half way between firm and soft, according to Fox.
I adjusted the compression and rebound setting as advised by Trutune, then fine tuned them over my next ride. Left rebound alone only reducing HSC and LSC by one click.
As I didn't suffer any noticable bottom out, I increased the sag to soft and it was perfect.
I had held off purchasing for a while and I now wish I'd just taken the plunge.
For me this is a game changer.
I bought an older (cerca 2019) Rockshox Lyrik and I added the Tru Tune and it feels better than all the newer forks I have tried. The increased control and feel is amazing.
I was able to demo a friend’s for a couple of ride’s and it was an eye-opener, night & day difference. I ordered one asap for myself & upon arrival, I immediately installed. Now, I’m awaiting the current trail conditions (Winter) to improve before initial shake down…can’t wait. Keep up the beyond great work you guys do!
